Hirbawi® Kuffiyeh - Yafa
Yafa Kuffiyeh – Hirbawi® Factory
“Our Yafa Hirbawi® Kufiya is a tribute to the majestic city of Yafa (Jaffa); a place known for its timeless beauty and deep history. The vibrant blue zigzag pattern on a rich black background captures the serene seaside and sweeping views of the Mediterranean coastline. This authentic Palestinian keffiyeh echoes the spirit of Yafa (يافا), meaning “beauty” in Canaanite, which was once the largest city in historic Palestine before the 1948 Nakba. Yafa is remembered as the great port city, famous for its citrus groves and the world-renowned Yafa Orange, and for its thriving community of banks, factories, and artisans. Although the city’s fortunes changed with the expulsion of nearly all its indigenous Palestinian population in 1948, Yafa still holds a special place in the hearts of Palestinians everywhere.”
Made in Hebron (Al-Khalil), Palestine
About the Creator:
This kuffiyeh is woven in the Hirbawi® Textile Factory in Hebron — the last remaining kuffiyeh factory in Palestine. Since 1961, Hirbawi® has produced the traditional scarf, carrying forward a craft that embodies Palestinian identity, resilience, and pride. Each scarf is woven on traditional looms, where the rhythmic sound of weaving continues a tradition that has outlasted borders, displacement, and attempts at erasure.
From Hebron’s factory floor, this kuffiyeh began a long and difficult journey. Crossing checkpoints and navigating restrictions, it has travelled all the way to so-called Australia — each step of its movement shaped by the barriers Palestinian artisans face in sharing their work with the world.
To wear this scarf is to carry more than fabric: it is to hold a symbol of Palestinian heritage, a reminder of belonging, and a testament to the artisans who keep this tradition alive.
