Hirbawi® Kuffiyeh - Um Suleiman
Um Suleiman Kuffiyeh – Hirbawi® Factory
“Our Um Suleiman Hirbawi® Kufiya is more than just a fashion statement. The colors of the black and red beetle (Um Suleiman) elegantly displayed on this keffiyeh are a reminder that beauty can be found in the smallest of creatures and a call to protect them. Inspired by Fairuz's enchanting song, “Tic Tic Um Suleiman,” this shemagh embodies the spirit of harmony between nature and art. Made in Palestine with pride, it represents our commitment to honouring the beauty of our environment and the rich cultural heritage of Palestine.”
Made in Hebron (Al-Khalil), Palestine
About the Creator:
This kuffiyeh is woven in the Hirbawi® Textile Factory in Hebron — the last remaining kuffiyeh factory in Palestine. Since 1961, Hirbawi® has produced the traditional scarf, carrying forward a craft that embodies Palestinian identity, resilience, and pride. Each scarf is woven on traditional looms, where the rhythmic sound of weaving continues a tradition that has outlasted borders, displacement, and attempts at erasure.
From Hebron’s factory floor, this kuffiyeh began a long and difficult journey. Crossing checkpoints and navigating restrictions, it has travelled all the way to so-called Australia — each step of its movement shaped by the barriers Palestinian artisans face in sharing their work with the world.
To wear this scarf is to carry more than fabric: it is to hold a symbol of Palestinian heritage, a reminder of belonging, and a testament to the artisans who keep this tradition alive.
