Hirbawi® Kuffiyeh - Black & White
Black & White Kuffiyeh – Hirbawi® Factory
“Our Black & White Hirbawi Kufiya; the original and iconic Palestinian keffiyeh, proudly handmade in Palestine. Deeply rooted in Palestinian heritage, this classic scarf was originally worn by rural farming communities and became a powerful symbol of resistance during the 1930s revolt against British colonial rule. It stands today as the ultimate emblem of Palestinian identity, unity, and the unwavering spirit of our people. This heavyweight version is crafted with care for export and is the only true Palestinian kufiya made in Palestine by the last and only kufiya factory.”
Made in Hebron (Al-Khalil), Palestine
About the Creator:
This black and white kuffiyeh is woven in the Hirbawi® Textile Factory in Hebron — the last remaining kuffiyeh factory in Palestine. Since 1961, Hirbawi® has produced the traditional scarf, carrying forward a craft that embodies Palestinian identity, resilience, and pride.
The distinctive black net pattern represents the fishing nets of Palestinian coastal communities, while the bold stripes symbolise olive groves and enduring connection to the land. Each scarf is woven on traditional looms, where the rhythmic sound of weaving continues a tradition that has outlasted borders, displacement, and attempts at erasure.
From Hebron’s factory floor, this kuffiyeh began a long and difficult journey. Crossing checkpoints and navigating restrictions, it has travelled all the way to so-called Australia — each step of its movement shaped by the barriers Palestinian artisans face in sharing their work with the world.
To wear this scarf is to carry more than fabric: it is to hold a symbol of Palestinian heritage, a reminder of belonging, and a testament to the artisans who keep this tradition alive.
