Fakhoury Ceramic Bowl - Assorted Colours
Hand-Painted Ceramic Bowl
Handmade in the Old City of Hebron (Al-Khalil), Palestine
This striking ceramic bowl is hand-shaped and hand-painted in Hebron’s Old City, where Palestinian artisans have been working in clay for centuries. .
Each bowl carries with it the memory of Hebron’s historic kilns — where families of artisans have preserved ceramic-making across generations, despite the pressures of occupation and the ongoing erosion of cultural industry. The process itself is an act of continuity: shaping the clay by hand, applying glaze with patience, and firing in the same city that has produced ceramics for hundreds of years.
From Hebron’s narrow stone streets, this bowl began a long journey. Carried across checkpoints, borders, and shipping routes, it has travelled all the way to so-called Australia — each stage a reminder of the restrictions Palestinian artisans face in bringing their work to the world. Owning this bowl is not only to hold a piece of Palestinian craft, but also to honour its journey: a fragment of Hebron’s living history that has survived and endured to reach your hands.

About the Creator:
For over 300 years, the Fakhoury family of Hebron — whose name means “the potter” in Arabic — has preserved one of Palestine’s oldest ceramic traditions. Working in the heart of Hebron’s Old City, their family has passed down hand-shaping, glazing, and kiln-firing techniques through generations. Despite the harsh restrictions and checkpoints that now divide their city, the Fakhourys continue to create bowls, mugs, and vessels entirely by hand, carrying forward a lineage of craftsmanship that has endured for centuries.
